Overview:
Now that Salla formed the boundary between Finland and Russia, the Russians had fortified the area -- especially the road leading to Salla from the Finnish border. As part of a three-pronged attack -- Finns attacked from the north, Wehrmacht from the south while the untested SS Kampfgruppe Nord had the main thrust down the long forested road.
