Overview:

The Japanese offensive on the 8th secured the northern and eastern portion of the city but failed to secure a major breakthrough into the rest of the city. Chinese civilians either fled to any Chinese troops they could find or were shot by the Japanese, while buildings all across the city were damaged or destroyed. The Japanese secured their positions and prepared for a second day of battle to take the rest of the city. During the night, Chinese cavalry moved some troops into new positions to aid the rest of their troops to escape westward. The Chinese were now ready to fight.

Regardless, the Chinese must be aggressive as early as possible and follow it up with a fighting withdrawal. Good for practicing such tactics, but while under the threat of banzais!

Japanese highlights: A hyperactive, out of control sniper, and winning practically every close combat, no matter what the odds were. Japanese won by building control on last turn. Chinese/Japanese scenarios are always fun in my book. Bruce played a very aggressive Japanese attack (as he should have). I would recommend the Chinese get the balance.
