Overview:
The German retreat after the Kursk debacle was marked by valiant rear guard actions of small, mobile battle groups that held up the Russian armor thrust long enough for vulnerable rear echelon units to escape in good order. Despite having only a smattering of battered armor left, the German tank crews were well led and experienced at mobile defense.
