Overview:
The 25th Battalion was ordered to clear the Buin road as the Australians pushed towards the strategic town on the island's southern tip. The Japanese were determined to halt this advance and push the Australians back across the Puriata River. The Australian militia, supported by tanks and artillery, began to encounter stiff resistance. The Japanese brought in artillery pieces in a direct fire role, to support a local counterattack. Although virtual prisoners on Bougainville, the Japanese decided to fight to the bitter end.Attacker: Australian (25th Battalion, 7th Brigade)
