Overview:
The fort of El Agheila fell to Steich's 5th Leichte on 24 March 1941 and the Allies withdrew 30 miles to the Arab village of Mersa el Brega. A series of event that would come to be known as the "Benghazi Handicap" due to the speed at which events unfolded. On 5 April, retreating British elements of the Western Desert Force fell back on Mechili, unaware that enemy tanks were converging on the town from three sides.Attacker: British (Western Desert Force)
