Overview:

The Soviets launched an offensive into Manchuria on 9 August 1945. The operation was very successful and penetrated deep into Japanese lines, making it difficult for them to re-establish defensive positions. The Soviets broke through most defenses by 12 August and surrounded Japanese groupings. The Japanese 124th Infantry Division was ordered to provide rearguard to slow the Soviet advance in order to allow other forces to form a new defensive line. The Soviet 65th Rifle Corps put significant pressure on the Japanese 272nd Regiment over the next couple of days, forcing its remnants to the base of Mount Shozu.

2025-07-27(D) walter mcwilliams vs Tom Kearney Japanese winAt no point and time did I think I stood a chance as the Japaneese in this scenario and at no point did Tom think he would win lol. I choose a hybrid defense with much of my OB set up in reverse slope but a bit on the military crest as well. Tom chose his Pre-reg hex well and wrecked my Hippies. He also attacked heavy on the Russian right with a supporting attack on the board 25 flank, The flanking force was pretty much stopped cold by the Jap 81mm which immobilized the two supporting T34 and kept the infantry out of the fight until it was two late to make a difference. The Russian right made great early progress but the terrain really slowed them down and they simply could not roll up that flank to secure the Japaneese center. A barn burner for sure and great fun for both sides.
