Overview:
The fighting on Okinawa had been brutal and U.S. Army divisions slugged it out against the Japanese defenses throughout April. The 1st and 6th Marine Divisions began entering the American attack zone on 1 May, and immediately engaged in action. The Marines attacked nearly every day, and planned two major attacks 7 and 11 May.
