Overview:

On the first day of the war, the German 4th Panzer Division attacked the well-trained and determined Wolynska Cavalry Brigade at the village of Mokra. In the early morning hours of September 1st, German scouts probed the lines of the dismounted Polish cavalry. At 1000 hours, they called in the Panzers and the ensuing battle drove the defenders deeper into the forested terrain that the tanks could not penetrate. 1st Battalion would have to send in their infantry if they wanted to dislodge the defenders.

2024-02-03(D) Jobbo Fett vs JobboFett German winThe Germans managed to pull a victory out of the rabbit's hat. They were hounded by the Polish sniper and shots seemed to be breaking squads left right and center. Of note were the 2 or 3 boxcars I rolled for German morale checks, making things quite tense by the end of Polish Turn 3. Things seemed to improve for the Germans when the Mortars managed several hits, including one devastating shot that killed the Squad with the HMG outright, as well as sniping a 7-0. Things kept going wrong for the Poles when one of the better-positioned squads went berserk on a lucky HoB (Of which the Germans also had 5, I believe?!) and they were subsequently reduced as they charged the nearest German unit. As more Poles broke or were forced to retreat, the situation really became German-favoured as a Berserk squad managed to run to, and pin down, the Hero and a 4-5-8 in Melee.

Ultimately, the Poles lost on their own turn in Game Turn 7 as the Melee survived and they had no other MMCs that were Good Order. I played out the German's 7th turn, only for the 9-2 and a reinforcing half-squad help eliminate the Melee, while all other Polish troops were eliminated for failure to rout (and a crazy 8-1 ratio CC by two squads against a single 8-1 leader). Tense scenario!
