Overview:
The Bulgarian Army began its withdrawal from Yugoslavia and Greece at the end of August. This brought about the first conflicts with German troops. On the morning of 6th September, forces of 3rd Ukrainian Front under the command of General Tolbubin entered Bulgaria. The Bulgaria government announced a Declaration of War against Germany the same day. The new government submitted unconditionally to the requirements of Moscow and joined the “Soviet Union in order to chase out the Germans from the Balkans”. At the same time German units began their withdrawal from Bulgaria. On 7 September, the 1st Armored Regiment together with supporting units of the Armored Brigade, ambushed a retreating German column.Attacker: Bulgarian (Elements of 1st Armored Regiment, Armored Brigade)
