Overview:
This is the first of a three-scenario mini-campaign. American forces surviving this scenario are used as reinforcements in the sequel. . . . The Allied invasion of Sicily was lead by Major General Terry de la Mesa Allen's "Big Red One". This force included the 1st Ranger Battalion under the command of Lt. Col. William Owen Darby -- Darby's Rangers. As the core of Force X, Darby's Rangers lead the assault on the beaches outside Gela, Sicily. At 3:55 a.m., Company D of the 4th Rangers landed on beach 68 Green, facing the Italian Sixth Army, XVI Corps. The Italians had set up a strong mine-based defense here to stop the Allies.Attacker: American (Company D, 4th Ranger Battalion)
