Overview:

"Massacre in Paradise" -- The German pressure around the Dunkirk defense perimeter was strong. Among the assailants was the Totenkopf Division of the Waffen-SS. It was made up of members of the "Death's Head Groups", guard units from concentration camps. The formation of the division aroused the hostility of the Wehrmacht, which refused to equip it. Himmler finally obtained Czech cannons and machineguns for the division. On 27 May, the division isolated the soldiers of the 2nd Royal Norfolk Regiment to the south of the hamlet of Le Paradis. The British entrenched in a large farm and underwent shelling and assault by the men of 2nd SS Regiment, who began taking heavy losses. The defenders resisted throughout an hour, then, encircled, exhausted and short of ammo, they surrendered. One hundred prisoners were then lined up against a wall and shot down by the machineguns of 4th Company.

2026-03-09(D) Jobbo Fett vs JobboFett British winThe Germans never managed to grab a single stone location - that about sums up one of the worst runs of luck I've ever managed to roll in VASL. The British sniper was on a roll and broke the 81mm Mortar before they ever got a chance to shoot smoke (I was waiting for Turn 2 to take advantage of the movement), and the crew was eliminated shortly thereafter. The MMGs never managed to break any Brits hiding in the stone buildings, and out of dozens of Morale Checks, the Germans only passed a handful, at most. On the plus side, when they did pass, they would generally spawn a Hero and go Fanatic, which could never be put to use as they would be broken/eliminated within a turn or two. The British, immune to cowering, simply sprayed and prayed, and were answered with righteous fury. Also, lest I forget, the British were the victims of 3 critical hits from mortar fire, and passed all 3 without ever breaking. A night of play that would drive any to drink.
2025-10-11(D) Allen Evenson vs Robert Modarelli German (SS) winMortar ran out of smoke first shot but did end up with a few good shots. I did not pull back well an ended up trapped. Still fairly close but ran out troops to hold off the onslsaught. Fun tight game - Brits needed at least a MMG.
