Overview:
Outside of the small village of Lysyanka, the Russian 156th Tank Regiment, equipped with lend-lease M4 ("Emcha") Sherman tanks, encountered well-placed German anti-tank and infantry forces on the road ahead. The Germans were convinced that no armor could approach their flanks due to very wet and soft ground. Russian Lieutenant Gevorg Chobanyan thought the Emchas' low ground pressure might enable them to take advantage of a ravine to the north of the Germans' location. Leading 6 Emchas with "desantniki" riders, they slowly circled around the Germans, unseen until they burst out of the ravine only 200 meters from the shocked defenders.Attacker: Russian (156th Tank Regiment)
