Overview:
As the Allied forces expanded out from their beachheads in Normandy, a key objective was the city of St. Lo. As part of the opening attacks on that city, the 115th Infantry Regiment of the American 29th Infantry Division was positioned along the east bank of the Vire River. A primary objective for the 29th Division was Hill 122, located a mile south of the village of Belle-Fontaine, and from whose heights the Germans could observe the whole of the 29th Division's front. . .Attacker: American (Elements of B and C Companies, 1st Battalion, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division, supported by tanks of the 747th Tank Battalion)
