Overview:
The defection of Romania in August 1944, caught the Axis off guard, and Romanian forces were quick to seize the southern defensive terrain. The Hungarians and Germans launched multiple attacks to regain the Mountain Passes in the Carpathians. These attacks forced a breakthrough in the line held by of the 21st Training Division at Ludus, forcing it to withdraw.
