Overview:

Operation Cobra paid off in that American forces had now turned east into the flank of German forces holding Normandy. The British, Canadian and Poles launched Operation Totalize to link up with the Americans at Falaise and trap all the German forces in Normandy. The operation began on the night of 8 August. On 9 August, the Canadians were a mere 10 kilometers from Falaise and slamming the door on 100,000 Germans. The Canadians planned to capture Hill 195 during the night and follow up in the morning with armor to capture Hill 206. The SS launched a quick and violent counterattack that retook the heights. Canadian armor moved into position to aid in the recapture of the hill. The SS Panzergrenadiers had other plans and, at 1155, launched another assault to drive the Canadians completely from the heights.

2020-05-09(A) Kermit Mullins vs Dan Best German (SS) winWow, crazy tough scenario. Dan's Canadians were very aggressive and by Turn 2 had taken all 7 - 3 level hill hexes. By Turn 4 the Germans had lost all of their vehicles. Dan came around the left flank hard with his armor and got entangled with SS Grenadiers with the result that all three tanks were destroyed. A fourth would also be knocked out on the right flank hill complex. Only 1 Sherman would survive in the backfield. Panzerfausts ruled the day. The Germans despite early turn misfortune successfully regained the hills and ended the game with 6 of the 7 - 3 level hill hexes. A game with a lot of momentum shifts as both Dan and I rolled badly. Dan did roll 3 snakes in a row at one point, which zapped my personal ELR, but in the end, The SS were just too tough.
