Overview:

On April 6, Yugoslavia and Greece were invaded simultaneously by German forces. The Greeks established their forward defenses on the Metaxas Line. The Greeks hoped the Yugoslavians would block any advance along their western flank. The main Metaxas Line held firmly for two days, however, the Germans did make excellent progress around the left flank of the line where only 4 battalions of the Kroussia Detachment stood in the way. As the entire line was threatened, the 19a Motorized Division raced northward from Kilkis to stop it. The Germans concentrated their 2nd Panzer Division in the area and pushed south. At 0600 hours on the 8th, Stukas dove on the Greek defenders as tanks poured south into their defenses.
