Overview:

In a move to destroy German coastal batteries, the British No. 4 Commando unit, accompanied by a handful of American Rangers went against the Varengeville Battery. The attack was split into two groups. The first was to land directly below the battery and keep the gunners pinned down, while the second performed a flanking maneuver in an effort to come upon the enemy from the rear.

2022-08-18(A) Ian Mann vs Ash Tennant German winGreat fun, but we play to have a laugh, not to worry about scenario balance.
2021-07-23(A) Shane Pask vs German winDodgy victory conditions and some poor rolls sapped all enthusiasm by the end of turn 3. Cpt Murell (10-2) was captured - he broke on a NMC! Sylvester and 6 other commando squads were broken and the Germans in the strongpoint were untouched. I managed to kill the German sniper (instead of touching anything in the strongpoint) and caught a few of the reinforcements as they entered. Tally at the end of Turn 3 was 5 to 38 VP with Germans set to increase this by 6 every player turn and no one even close to slow this down. The 12 VP per turn for the German guns really put the pressure on the commandos (I did pin a gun crew for 1 turn).
2021-07-23(A) Shane Pask vs German winAfter my previous rapid capitulation, I tried again but had the same result. Conceded turn 8 with 36 VP to 70. I may have been able to destroy the remaining 4 guns but would not be able to exit the necessary 14+ VP. I think the scenario would be more even if the Germans started with one fewer guns.
As it is, this will not go into my list of Favourites.
2016-11-30(A) Martí Cabré vs Nicolas Sabido German winMy first commando group was wiped out by murderous HMG fire that constantly got multiple ROF. Only a HS and a leader survived! The second group made it to the artillery position and managed to destroy 5 of the 6 guns, take 4 squads and 2 leaders prisoners and exit half of the team but the turns with all the guns firing and scoring 12 points per turn had widen a gap, and the Germans finally won by 21 points.
