After two months of heavy fighting in and around Shanghai, the Chinese Army was forced to retreat to the south bank of Suzhou Creek. Covering the retreat was the 524th Regiment of the Chinese 88th Division led by Lt.-Col. Hsieh Chin-yuan. The regiment held its positions around the Four-Bank Warehouse -- a reinforced-concrete warehouse owned by four commercial banks. In the middle of the burning Zhabei district, soldiers of the 524th prepared to write their own heroic destiny as thy faced the advancing Japanese Shanghai Expeditionary Army.

Chinese fire was deadly accurate while the Japanese troops advanced. By end of turn 2, six Japanese squads had been eliminated (!) while several others reduced to striped status. Blaze counters split the Japanese advance to both flanks, but they persisted - and by turn 5 were in place to begin fire on the factory. Meanwhile, the Chinese played a typical fall-back game, skulking to slow the Japanese as they drew back towards the factory. The Chinese lost all their MG's through malfunction or in CC, but they firmly defended the factory with multiple intact squads. By turn 7, the Japanese did not have enough troops left to storm the factory, let alone take control. Good scenario - the spreading blaze counters make things unpredictable.

Dice were against me from the start, when my HMG on overwatch broke on its first shot, then was gone permanently the next RPh. Besides that, my assault up the right flank was pretty well on track as by turns 3/4 I was shooting into the Factory building; even got off two Banzai charges. Unfortunately, despite firing 12FP (after being halved) +2/+3/+4 shots I was not able to keep Dave's Chinese broken or pinned. Eventually ran out of time. Good use of skulking kept many Chinese units alive when they could have easily been chopped up.
Over all a very fun scenario, our first playing PTO, and we had a blast.

Surprisingly close after some good and bad luck for the Japanese force, especially a banzai charge half-way through the game that got mulched by the valiant chinese defenders. Multiple GUSTS allowed for Blazes to thrive, and collapse a few locations, though the Blazes were poorly placed to begin with. By the end of the Game, through very fast play and poor choices, the Japanese managed entry into the Factory despite the chances, but ultimately the final Fortified Location made it impossible for the Japanese forces to enter. I think the Japanese should get the balance, especially seeing the records on the right.

This one is tough if the Chinese get back, in numbers, concealed in the factory.
It’s a nice scenario but the Japanese must have a very focused attack.
