A Less Peaceful Christmas | Filipinos (NotSure) | Japanese | 2022-02-23 | Won | The Japanese emerged unscathed from the jungle and kunai along the East edge of the Board but down 24 building control VPs. To make up this deficit quickly and cut off the Filipino exit before taking control of the buildings, two 3 squad stacks, one with the 9-1 and the other with the 8-0 leader, made a risky Banzai charge to the South edge. These units spanned the palm grove intact, and several CCs and Melees ensued with the Japanese edging out the Filipinos due to their HH advantage. The Filipinos made a valiant stand, but were unable to exit or prevent loss of the buildings, which gave the Japanese the VP margin needed to win the game. | 8 |
Once the Americans were able to mass their (massive) FP along the river on either side of the footbridge, those two FGs were soon DMd and the route to victory was open.
This scenario is the SK version of a couple of ASL scenarios, one of which is in the mini HASL "Hell's Corner." IIRC, both of the ASL versions are difficult for the Americans to win. However, IMO this SK version is tilted noticeably in favor of the Americans.
That imbalance, coupled with unlucky dice, was more than Bob could overcome.
